2010 October Sales Report

The Annual 5 day catalogue sale of Connemara ponies held at clifden mart over the bank holiday weekend attracted 1243 entries.

From this number catalogued 1109 ponies went through the ring over the 5 days with 79% of these finding new homes. 54 ponies were sold to France with 29 ponies going to the UK. The remainder of the ponies were sold throughout Ireland & Northern Ireland.

Thursday October 21st comprised of ridden ponies, colts & Stallions. Ridden ponies over 4 years mainly Geldings fetched from €1600 to € 3250. Two Class 1 Stallions were sold one at €1900 the other fetching €2500.

Friday October 22nd saw all females on sale over 1 year. With the highest priced pony over the 5 days lot 310 a 3 Year old Mare fetching €5000. Yearling & Two Year old Fillies were sold from €900 to €2750, with Brood Mares selling depending on age, quality €900 to €3000.

The next three days Saturday, Sunday & Monday saw over 700 foals on sale. Colt foals varied very much in price with the highest fetching €1000 the lowest. Colt foal being sold for €100, But the majority being sold from €275 to €450. Filly Foals seemed not as popular as other years, but again most found new homes prices here ranging from €150 to €1500 with the majority of Filly foals selling
from €400 to €600.

Lot 967 – a Filly foal belonging to Jimmy Leonard – was sold for €1500 to Linda O’Donovan, this means that Jimmy Leonard from Corrandulla receives the Clifden Mart Cup for the highest priced foal being sold over the three days.

The next Connemara Pony sales in Clifden will take place in February 2011 date to be confirmed. Entry forms for the February Pony Sales will be available from December 1st 2010, all enquiries contact 095-21861.
