Following behind, and pictured here, is Lishmar Hazel (Westside Mirah x Tawin Hazel) being led by Eithne O' Connell, daughter of Michael O'Connell (farm manager of Lambay from 1953 to 1977 and ex council member). The Perpetual Trophy for the winner of the RDS Championship is named in his honour.

From humble beginnings in 2005, the Connemara element of the famous RUAS annual show at Balmoral is coming on strongly. This year saw some nine classes, at what will probably prove the last time the show will be held at historic King’s Hall. Growing beyond the strictures of its current venue, the site of the former Maze prison is being mooted as a possible venue for next year, the 144th year of the show. Tens of thousands desend upon the site, turning over an estimated £25 million in the Northern economy over its three day run, and it makes little economic sense to restrain the event by keeping it in its current location.
It is worth a pause to consider how far the island has come, when the Queen of England visits Croke Park next week and Martin McGuinness supports the Royal Ulster Agricultural Society hosting its annual show on the site of the old Maze. The revolution will be complete when Harry togs out for Tipp!
