Equitana
The biennial Equitana in Essen is the biggest Equine marketing fair in Europe. With its twelve massive halls there is not a single item from a lead rope to an ornate carriage that cannot be sourced there. Nearly a half million people pass through during the 8th days of its duration. It is the greatest marketing opportunity imaginable. German Connemara breeders usually take a stand there where they fly the Connemara flag among all the other breeds. They show the pony in action several times daily throughout the week, giving driving, dressage and riding displays. Some of those displays have an audience of thousands.
It may be a situation where the CPBS and other European Societies could come together to support the German effort for some serious marketing of the pony on mainland Europe when the great Fair comes around again in 2013. We could do worse! The German Society are typical of many of the International societies around the globe that are doing great things for the pony, and are to be congratulated on their efforts.
