Following a process begun in March of last year in Deauville, France, the European Equestrian Federation was formally signed into existence yesterday to represent the interests of European horse sports within the umberella of the FEI.
While some other European-wide Federations and representative groups were not present at the inception of this new organisation, it is widely anticipated that they will soon adopt the new statutes. The EEF will, it is hoped, ease communications with the FEI for European groups and be an important point of contact for lobbying the European Union. This re-organisation of smaller, national-based interest groups into a larger, regional body mirrors successful regional federations already in place for Asia and the Americas.
“The FEI welcomes this development,” said FEI President HRH Princess Haya. “Like the regional associations already established in Asia and the Americas, this reflects the natural evolution of representation of the sport’s interests at the regional level. We expect it to help address the numerous specific needs of European National Federations.”
