European Selection Success – Gelding Sales Forge Ahead
Just in this evening – the great news that, of the 5 ponies on the Irish team for the European Championships, 2 are Connemara’s. After the final trial at Wexford over the weekend, Ballyowen Maybelle Molly and Sillogue Darkie have been selected to jump at the Championships in Belgium in July, and at the the two warm-up shows in Europe beforehand.
Showing that the Connemara Gelding is the ‘man for all seasons’, at the Clifden Sales this weekend – while demand for Mares and Fillies was slow – there was a big demand for the geldings. One regular dealer went home with some 50 Geldings, while several other patrons put together some smaller lots themselves during the course of the day. It was a most encouraging sale in these ressessionary times!
