The International Committee of Connemara Pony Societies (ICCPS) Annual General Meeting was held at the Station House Hotel yesterday, at which New Zealand, Australia, Ireland, England, Holland Belgium, Germany, France, Canada, the U.S.A, Sweden, Denmark, and Finland were represented.
Following the election of officers and consideration of a long agenda, Hunter Doughty – a lecturer of equine science from the Wagga Wagga campus of Charles Stuart University, New South Wales, Australia – gave a most interesting presentation on some of the ongoing research at Wagga Wagga which included some of the up-to-date findings on ‘the grey gene and melanoma’ and laminitis. You can view Hunter’s own details here.
Also on the cards for the evening was the marking, by the ICCPS, of the occasion of the tenth anniversay of the Connemara Pony Museum. To help commemorate the event, Pat Lyne’s was presented with a framed photograph of Thunder. A photo that is thought to be the only one of this notable pony in existence. This museum is a wonderful resource, a testimony to the labour and love lavished upon it by Pat through the years, and we would heartily encourage all visitors to Clifden to take some time to browse through it. (We believe she has also prepared a booklet and poster to help foster interest in the museum into the future, so be sure to enquire after a copy!)
I’m sure you will all join with us in thanking Mr. Doughty for sharing his time the ICCPS, and for his important work towards the betterment of ponies; and in congratulating Pat – who has created some of the most important literature on the breed, on top of her dedication to the Connemara Pony Museum. We wish both of them every success in the future.
