Inaugural Connemara Pony World Show
The inaugural Connemara Pony World Show at the beautifully appointed Boswell Equestrian Center, in Ashford, Co. Wicklow, on the June Bank Holiday Monday, was a great success. Congratulations to Lucinda Kelly and her most efficient team (Aoife Gallagher, Jenny Martin, Dermot Murphy, Avril Kelly, Peter Roberts, Hazel Roberts, and Phyllida Stokes) on organising a terrific day. Ponies came from as far away as Clifden and Cork to give the show a real national flavour. The standard was extremely high, featuring several champions from last year’s circuit, including Clifden winners. The date and the setting were ideal, and this is a show that will grow and prosper.
While all the classes had a good number of entries forward on the day, the Working Hunter and Riding classes reflected the Working pony culture on the East coast with huge numbers. The first of the Loose Jumping qualifiers had a very distinguished winner in a sister of Ballyowen Maybelle Molly, Ballyowen Isabelle (pictured), bred by John and Jenny Richardson.
