In what is probably the biggest ever gathering of Connemara Ponies, over 1,200 Connemaras will be gathered in Clifden from the 21st to the 25th of this month for the October sales, with 1,243 entered for presentation. The number of ponies present even on a daily basis over the long weekend would rival the numbers for Clifden Show itself.
The first day of the sales, Thursday 21st October, consists of all males over 1 year of age and all ridden ponies – so colts, geldings, and registered stallions will be on offer, consisting of both broken and ridden ponies. There are approximately 250 lots entered for the day.
Day 2, Friday 22nd, will see all females over one year of age on display – so all fillies, yearlings and upwards, and a number of mares. There are about 184 ponies catalogued for Friday.
Days 3, 4 and 5, Saturday 23rd to Monday 25th October consists of mainly foals and a small number of broodmares. There are nearly 300 ponies catalogued on Saturday and again on Sunday. The remainder are on Mondays sale.
Connemara Pony Sales report a great deal of interest from UK buyers, and also a number of French buyers who attended the sales for the first time last year are returning again with a view to buying up on 30 ponies. There is a lot of interest in ridden ponies from the UK market in particular.
They also wish to make known that a vet is always available at the sales, there will be several transport companies in attendance at the sales and transport to any destination will be possible. The sales start at 10am each day. Catalogues are available to download as pdf. files from Connemaraponysales.com, from this site here, or you can read them as text via the links below.

I hope John Sweeney and Padaric Heanue (The organisers of the sales) do not disappoint those attending who have travelled from far and near by ensuring Mr Bob Sweeney (no relation of Johns)purchases all his stock in the ring by bidding like everyone else. Otherwise those foreign buyers will be disappointed like some of their predecessors and may not return for the next sale. Bonne chance à tous ceux qui participent agus ádh mór do gach duine a bheidh ag freastal.
Hope the irish is correct
Regards John
