As the Spring of 2011 comes to a close we can say that rarely have we had better weather in the early months. Two factors, weather and the market, influence all farming. While the market is still somewhat in the doldrums, the weather could not have been kinder. Ponies coming out for recent inspections reflect the good weather they’ve had, and the plentiful supply of haylage and grass available. While the trees are not yet in leaf, the countryside is greening and the whitethorn rules the hedgerows. On with the summer!
Kay Nolan’s Mullingar clinic for the RDS competitions took place last Saturday week, where 50 participants attended. Kay concentrated on groundwork and went meticulously through every phase. She started with a talk and discussion, followed by a DVD analysis and finished with a practical demonstration, using three ponies and riders. It was an excellent day, which will sure benefit the riders and the competition. The clinic was organised by Ann Reade and Denise Norton, and included in the attendance was a group of eighteen who came over a hundred and forty-five miles by bus from Cleggan with Judy Cazabon. That’s dedication.
