Of the seven remaining contenders in the jump-off in the 148cm National Championships at the RDS in Dublin last August, three of the finalists were Connemara Ponies. The title was secured by one of those Connemaras – Prospect Peter (G-2814).
Owned by Ann Byrne, bred by Lucille Smyth Tarpey, and ridden by the formidable Kelly Allen (whom you will remember from Ballyowen Maybelle Molly fame); Prospect Peter is a sound example of the the breed’s bright future as a Performance pony. Sired by Billy (S-893) out of Justice Pet (M-8616), this eleven year old gelding and Allen were the only combination to achieve a double clear in the 148 competition.
Our congratulations to all concerned. Peter has done his bit to keep the Connemara in the spotlight, where it has been all through this remarkable year. We are sure to hear of more success from this top class pony in the future.
