Bartley O Sullivan Lecture Series

Bartley O'Sullivan was Joint Honorary Secretary of the CPBS from 1924 until 1960.
The Bartley O Sullivan Lecture Series is a series of lectures designed to examine aspects of the breeding, history, and characteristics of the Connemara Pony and bring them to the attention of the modern breeder. It is envisioned that the series will run to five lectures in total. The lectures have so far taken place during the Spring Festival in Clifden, the evening before the Stallion Parade.
At present, the first two lectures have run most successfully. These have been the lecture on ‘The Influence of Thoroughbred Blood in the Connemara Pony‘ by Ms. Elizabeth Petch (author of ‘The Connemara Pony Breeders Society 1923-1998‘), and the following lecture – ‘The Influence of Arabian Blood in the Connemara Pony‘ – by Ms. Pat Lyne (author of the reknowned ‘Mist’ series of books on the history of the Connemara). The third lecture, as yet undefined, will take place in 2011.
The lectures, thankfully, are also being made available individually in print. They are available directly from the CPBS offices in Clifden at a very reasonable €7.00 each, or can be purchased by mail for €10.00 each, inclusive of postage and packaging.
(International customers should note that some of the International Societies have taken some copies to make available to their members locally, and therefore it may be advisable to check with your Society to see if they have any copies they can offer you.)
