It is very sad to hear of the death of Thunderball (S-948 ). Gabriel Murphy’s stallion had the rarest of bloodlines, doubling up on Tully Lad (S-48) on his sire’s side and with no influence whatsoever of Little Heaven or Nazeel. The only outside blood was from the Thoroughbred Buckna, which came through Rambling Home (M-3383) by Carna Bobby (S-79). He was the alternative ‘Green Line’ option to the Tully Grey (S-110)/Hazy Dawn (S-849) stallions. It is good that he has left some registered sons and many daughters. Thunderball has been an extremely useful cross for the taller, lighter mares, bringing the strength and resilience that came from the Fionnán ponies of the 30′s and 40′s. Just as we kept tabs on the passing of stallions in ’09, we hope to do the same now in 2010, updating this post as new developments occur throughout the year.
