I’ve heard that some of our visitors can find it difficult to find specific information on the site, something we’ve tried hard to address from the very beginning. In response, here’s a small post detailing how the posts on the site are organised, and how to make full use of our Archives.
The Front Page
The Front Page of the site (i.e. the page you land on when you go to www.ashbrookstud.ie) is where all the most recent information appears. It can be broken down into three basic sections:
- The ‘Snippets’: These are the two pieces of news you see as you scroll down the page. They appear directly below the Google Ads and the ‘Contact Us’ button. These snippets are there for smaller pieces of news that, for various reasons, may not warrant a full-size front page post. It may be that they simply don’t have enough actual content to fill the page, or they may be of general, rather than specific, interest to Connemara Pony enthusiasts.
- Main Article: The main article of the site is to be found directly under the Snippets. This post gets a large banner headline, is prominently dated, and carries the most pertinent or important news we have at the time. All our articles (as opposed to news items) are also featured here. Think of this as being the equivalent of a newspaper’s front page news.
- Older Posts: Just below the main article are excerpts and links to the previous three main articles (snippet’s not included here).
Clicking on the title of any of the posts on the front page, be they Snippets, the Main Article, or Older Posts, will open that post’s own page. Here that post will be presented entirely on its own, with it’s comments section visible underneath. It is possible to scroll through all the posts by clicking on the Older Post/Newer Post links that appear beneath the title. This will bring you to the next post in chronological order. Note that the most recent post will not have a ‘Newer Post’ link (it will have an ‘Older Post’ link though!) and that Snippet posts are included with the main article posts.
The Archives:
The Archives are the best way to trawl through the site looking for specific information. There are currently four ways that all the posts on the site have been organised:
- Posts by Title
- Posts by Category
- Posts by Month
- Posts by Tag
Posts by Title: All of these categorisations are actually fairly straightforward. Under ‘Posts by Title’ are listed ALL the posts we’ve ever made on the site, right back to our launch in Feb. of last year. They are listed alphabetically. So if you have an idea of what the title of the post you are looking for was, you can scan through this list and find it relatively quickly.
Posts by Category: This is useful if you can remember what kind of post it was – a Snippet on the front page, perhaps, or maybe a full Article? Clicking on one of the categories will display for you all of the posts listed under that heading.
Posts by Month: Posts by Month is for those who can remember roughly when they saw the information they want, but not necessarily in what form (Article, Snippet, etc.). Acts similarly to the Posts by Category in that selecting a month will display all of the posts of that month for you.
Posts by Tag: Overall, probably one of the most useful features of the site, the Posts by Tag filter can be pretty powerful, and interesting! Essentially, all posts are ‘tagged’ by me as I publish them. A post about Sillogue Darkie at Clifden Stallion Weekend may get tagged with words like: Sillogue Darkie, Clifden, Stallion, Stallion Parade, Spring Festival, Stallion Weekend, etc. At the moment, there are over 750 tags used! The purpose to this is that, if one selects the ‘Sillogue Darkie’ tag, then all posts we’ve ever published that in someway deal with Sillogue Darkie (in a relevant way) are listed for you. We don’t display all the tags, just the top 45.
Search the Website
As a final resort, you can use the search function. This is the lighter green box at the very top of the screen that says ‘Search the Website’. Just type what you are looking for there and an exhaustive list of every post that ever once mentioned any of your search terms is listed for you. The drawback to this method is that Searching for something in this way takes no account of relevancy and can produce results that really have very little to do with what you are searching for, mixed in with results that are truly helpful.
And That’s it!
