The Spring Weekend in Clifden got off to a flying start last night (Thursday 25th) with a wonderful exhibition of seventy photographs by Swedish breeders Nina and Anders Gustafsson.
The exhibits included the iconic photograph of Killyreagh Kim (S-308) looking through his stable window, which has featured in various publications. Other stallions included were Mervyn Pookhaun (S-528), Tulira Máirtín (S-214), Robin Hood (S-806), Ormond Oliver (S-653), Atlantic Storm (S-139), and many others. There were beautiful studies of famous mares like Fionnuala (M-5508), Loobeen Meg (M-4809), Village Girl (M-9025), Ganty Jane (M-2300), and Callowfeenish Dolly II (M-1913). Perhaps the most beautiful of all was the stunning capture of Wireless Wave (M-3641), but everyone had their own favourites – there were so many to choose from!
For those who missed the exhibition, there will be a second chance to see it when Nina will speak at the International Connemara Pony Conference on Saturday April 24th 2010 at the Bridge House Hotel, Tullamore, Co Offaly. It is also hoped to repeat the exhibition in the Station House Museum in August during Show Week.
The note of appreciation on the very informative catologue says it all… ‘the Connemara Pony Breeders Society wish to thank Nina and Anders Gustafsson for preserving these beautiful and invaluable photographs and sharing them with us.‘ Indeed.
