Village Heather All-Ireland Supreme Champion

Amongst a gathering of top quality ponies from around the country, and before an appreciative audience that had turned out in force, Padraic Hynes’ Village Heather was awarded the title of All-Ireland Supreme Champion at Roundstone on Sunday.

The Reserve spot went to Eamon Burke’s Clooneile Cashel – himself Supreme Champion of the Roundstone Pony Show earlier in the year.

The All-Ireland Junior champion title went to Lucky Molly, owned by Sinead Lusby McGrath of Claregalway. Glencarrig Stud should also be mentioned, taking home the red rosettes from the Yearling Filly, 2 to 3 year-old Colt, and 4 to 6 Mare classes with Glencarrig Pixie, Glencarrig Knight, and Glencarrig Rose respectively.

Although rain threatened all day, only one shower fell throughout the day’s showing, leaving the a brisk Atlantic wind to keep man and pony on their toes. Indeed what better conditions to appreciate the native pony, set against the beautiful backdrop of Inis Ní and Roundstone bay? A definite foreign tinge could be seen in the crowd, with enthusiasts from abroad clearly taking advantage of the presence of so many of the season’s top ponies on show in one place to fly in and take some snaps to enjoy over the winter at home.
